Invitation to contribute to community-wide review of Scenario Evaluation Criteria

Scenarios are often evaluated in the process of producing new scenarios or when in the process of collecting and assessing existing scenario ensembles. Specifically, scenarios are often checked against empirical observations, near-term projections, and sustainability targets to identify scenarios that are outdated, internally inconsistent, technically infeasible, or ecologically undesirable.

The Scenario Compass Initiative (SCI) project is curating a set of community-agreed criteria for this kind of evaluation of scenarios. The aim is to provide a versioned, machine-readable set of such evaluation criteria that is comprehensively documented.

After compiling an initial set of criteria in 2025, the project is now preparing an update of these criteria and is requesting community-wide feedback on it.
