New Scientific Working Group: Justice, Equity and Human Development (JED)

The IAMC Scientific Steering Committee has approved the formation of a new Scientific Working Group on Justice, Equity and Human Development (JED).

The working group serves as the IAMC’s community forum for advancing how justice, equity, and human development considerations are understood, represented, and communicated in climate mitigation scenarios. Acting in a facilitative role, the SWG will build shared conceptual foundations and a community stocktake of ongoing work, support transparency about the normative assumptions embedded in scenarios, foster model advances and linkages to complementary tools, and strengthen engagement with the social and economic sciences, Global South networks, and policy-facing processes.

The SWG is co-chaired by Mel George (University of Maryland), Laura Pereira (University of the Witwatersrand; Stockholm Resilience Centre), Setu Pelz (IIASA) and Saritha Vishwanathan (Kyoto University; IIM Ahmedabad). Group membership will be established through an open process within the IAMC community and through engagement with external experts from adjacent research communities, including a group of external advisors.
