Scientific Working Group (SWG) on
Human Health and Wellbeing
With the growing importance of the health and climate interface in the international and national policy arena, there is a rising demand for robust, policy-relevant projections of health risks under climate and development pathways. The IAMC Scientific Working Group (SWG) on Human health and wellbeing brings together integrated assessment modelers, global health researchers, climate impact modellers, economists, policy experts, to advance health-climate science as a high-priority area for the IAMC community. The SWG aims to coordinate the incorporation of health-relevant indicators into IAMs and scenario frameworks, facilitate the uptake of those scenarios by the health research community, and support the development, intercomparison and quality assurance of health-focused model development and extensions.
How to engage
Researchers and practitioners can engage with the Human Health and Wellbeing SWG in several ways. Those interested in staying informed or getting involved can follow SWG updates through the IAMC website which will share information across the IAM and health communities. The SWG will organize dedicated sessions at the IAMC annual meeting (from Fall 2026), providing a recurrent venue for experts to connect. In Fall 2026, the SWG will also help coordinate the 3rd Wellcome Trust capacity building workshop, which has a particular focus on reserachers from low- and middle-income countries. In the longer term, participants can contribute to model intercomparison exercises (including protocols, data templates and joint activities) and to broader stakeholder coordination across ongoing and forthcoming IAM and health relevant projects.
IAMC members that are interested in participating in the work of the SWG please sign up here. For other scientific inquiries, please contact the SWG Co-Chairs.
