Removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere is essential, alongside reducing emissions, if we want to stop climate change and ensure the sustained well-being of our planet. Our analysis indicates that attention on Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) in terms of scientific research, innovation and public awareness are all growing.
However, we’re still only removing a small amount of carbon dioxide and governments’ commitment to developing CDR is low compared to what is needed to meet our climate goals.
The State of Carbon Dioxide Removal report is the first step towards a global assessment of the state of CDR and the gap we need to close. With future interactions of this assessment, we aim to build a community, bridge data gaps and support the scale up of CDR responsibly and equitably.
