The PAGE2002 model is different to many often more complicated Integrated Assessment Models (IAM) as it is a stochastic model that incorporates simplified environmental and economic equations to approximate complex phenomena such as radiative forcing and economic impacts. By using probability distributions for economic and environmental variables, the model calculates a range, and not a best guess outcome, for outputs such as temperatures, impacts and costs.
