Scenarios for Low Carbon Futures of the European Energy System” Online Workshop

  • on March 2, 2021

Energy transition policies, comparing pathways results, and open models-data for scenario analyses.

Online, Thursday March 4th, 2021

12:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Recently, openENTRANCE has released four quantitative scenarios for low-carbon energy transition of the European energy system focusing on climate neutrality by 2050.  Now it’s time to discuss their results and their relevance to the latest EU strategies! For this purpose, the openENTRANCE project and SUPEERA are organizing a half-day online workshop.

Building upon a novel approach of developing qualitative storylines embedded in a three-dimensional space of the essential three uncertain future determinants policy-technology-society, the openENTRANCE scenarios envision how Europe can comply with the 1.5/2.0°C global warming targets and show different trajectories to decarbonize the European energy system. In the process of developing the different quantitative scenarios the open source energy system model GENeSYS-MOD has been further developed and adapted to the specific openENTRANCE needs.

This online workshop presents advanced openENTRANCE scenario study analyses by examining the use of the decarbonisation pathways for sector or perspective specific analyses, which include macro-economic implications, investment barrier determinants, electricity markets design characteristics and others.

In addition, openENTRANCE studies will be discussed vis-à-vis with your/other scenarios studies to identify similarities of pathway results (robust findings), understand differences and elaborate on consolidated findings in terms of relevance to latest EU strategies (e.g. the SET Plan and Green Deal).

If you want to get a better overview on the work that has been done on the scenarios kindly refer to the detailed report published by openENTRANCE: Quantitative Scenarios for Low Carbon Futures of the pan-European Energy System – openENTRANCE
