Advancing Net-Zero through Just Energy Transitions: Building a Deeper Understanding of the Socio-Economic Realities of Achieving Global Goals

Join this event to hear the latest insights on transformative economic policies that can effectively diversify economies and enable communities to capture the opportunities of the transition.
The event will draw insights from the EEIST (Economics of Energy Innovation and System Transition) project’s cutting-edge case studies on China’s coal transition and India’s shift to green hydrogen and ammonia, presented by the world-leading researchers:
- Zac Cesaro, who will provide invaluable perspectives on the role of green hydrogen and ammonia in a low cost, resilient power system in India;
- Alex Clark, who will delve into the socio-economic impacts of China’s transition from coal, steering toward carbon-neutrality by 2060;
- Matthew Ives, who will explore “Sensitive Intervention Points”, a framework to identify areas where small interventions could trigger significant transformative changes in complex systems, such as China’s.
The event will also feature insights from esteemed stakeholders with expertise in the green hydrogen industry of India and the coal sector of China, reflecting on the policy options presented by project researchers. The panel esteemed discussion will be moderated by Anupama Sen, Head of Policy Engagement for the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, University of Oxford.
