Uncertainty Characterization in Multisector Systems (1 PhD student and 1 Postdoctoral Associate) at Tufts University, USA
The Lamontagne Lab at Tufts University invites applications for one PhD student and one Postdoctoral associate focusing on uncertainty characterization for multisector systems.
Increasingly, societal challenges lay at the intersection of land, energy, water, and socioeconomic systems that interact across spatiotemporal scales. Uncertainty is a key feature of such multisector integrated systems. This project aims to understand and characterize how uncertainty propagates across sectors and scales to impact the co-evolution of land, energy, and water systems, as part of the broader DOE-funded Global Change Intersectoral Modeling System (GCIMS) project.
The successful candidates will join a large and diverse research team that spans several universities and national labs and will focus on:
- Sensitivity analyses and uncertainty characterization for multisector integrated assessment models.
- Exploratory modeling via large ensemble simulation and scenario development for multisector systems.
- Modeling compounding influences and tradeoffs across sectors, scales, and over time.
- Specific sectoral and experimental foci are flexible and can be adjusted to candidate’s interests.
Qualifications for the PhD student include undergraduate or graduate training in mathematics, engineering, or science, with programming and data analysis experience. The successful candidate is expected to start in Fall 2023.
Qualifications for the Postdoctoral associate include a doctorate in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, or the natural/social sciences and a strong computational background, including experience with high performance computing. The start date is flexible.
The successful candidates are also expected to have strong communication skills and to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
To apply to these positions please send a CV, a cover letter describing your motivation for pursuing the position, and contact information for two references directly to Dr. Jonathan Lamontagne.
