Senior Energy System and Integrated Assessment Modeller at E3M
E3M, part of Ricardo plc, develops and maintains large-scale models in the energy, environment, and transport sectors, focusing on the design and impact analysis of various power generation technologies, green fuels, energy demand efficiency, and mobility restructuring. Its integrated modelling tools offer informed, transparent, and robust analysis and recommendations for high-profile clients, including the European Commission, national governments, energy regulators, private companies, financial institutions, and strategic consultancies. Over the past 30 years, E3-Modelling has been central to European energy and climate policy initiatives, with its models playing a key role in European Commission policymaking. Role Purpose We are looking for a Senior Energy/Integrated Assessment Modeller to join our team of experienced researchers/modellers and engage with us in further planning, developing, and applying our global Energy System and Integrated Assessment Models.
Key responsibilities:
- Perform quantitative research to support various activities of the Integrated Assessment model OPEN-PROM.
More specifically, you will: - Collect, structure, keep up-to-date and analyze large datasets with relevance for energy, economy and transport.
- Review and summarize scientific, technical and market reports into inputs necessary for quantitative assessments.
- Learn and develop energy system modelling tools using the software GAMS, R and/or Python.
- Apply the model in various research projects to provide support to national and international climate policy and feeding into the IPCC processes.
- Support senior researchers and consultants in delivering projects to clients.
- Conduct research and analysis to underpin project work.
- Manage time across multiple projects, focusing on planning, developing, and applying global Integrated Assessment Models.
- Collaborate with the Integrated Assessment Modelling team, including researchers, modellers, and consultants.
- Maintain a proactive, organized approach and ensure high-quality work.
- Pursue professional development opportunities to enhance skills and career growth.
Key Competencies and Experience:
- Degree or higher in Physics, Engineering, Economics, Applied Mathematics, or a relevant field.
- Experience in energy systems modelling or a related field.
- Proven programming skills in GAMS and/or Python/R.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and Word.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, collaborative attitude, and eagerness to learn.
- Previous experience or advanced knowledge in modelling power systems, industry sector, transport sector, or climate modelling.
- Skills in R, Git & GitHub, and LaTeX are considered important pluses.
