Researcher on climate modeling and mitigation scenarios at CICERO, Norway
CICERO wants to strengthen and expand our research on climate mitigation scenarios and their interactions with the physical climate and biosphere We are looking for an early career researcher for a permanent position, to help develop next-generation simple climate models, assess mitigation strategy and climate risk and perform detailed analysis of Earth System Model and Integrated Assessment Model output.
CICERO’s current research on this topic includes climate projection uncertainty resulting from historical and projected energy use and emissions. The successful applicant will work in CICERO’s Climate Mitigation group, with researchers working on mitigation scenarios, the Global Carbon Project, simple climate modelling, land-use modelling, energy system analysis, emissions accounting, the economics of the low-carbon transition, and various other policy-relevant topics. The group is part of several larger EU consortia and projects. Our research is published in leading scientific journals and communicated broadly.
The successful applicant will initially work on a range of projects potentially including Earth system models for the future (ESM2025), Paris Agreement Overshooting – Reversibility, Climate Impacts and Adaptation Needs (PROVIDE), Delivering the next generation of open Integrated Assessment MOdels for Net-zero, sustainable Development (DIAMOND), “Climate-Carbon Interactions in the Current Century” (4C), with several new projects starting up in 2023.
The successful applicant will have a solid academic background in natural sciences, with demonstrated strong analytical and quantitative skills, including collaborative programming and data analysis. A motivation for and interest in climate science is desirable. The ability to efficiently translate results into scientific publications and though the researcher will mainly work on existing projects, an interest in helping with new funding proposals is encouraged. We are looking for a person who can work in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment, with partners internal and external to CICERO.
