The Paul Scherrer Insitute is looking for a PhD student in “Integrated Assessment Modelling in view of Carbon Neutrality and International Low Carbon Fuel Trade” to cover a job position.
The tasks
- Performing cutting-edge research related to international climate change mitigation effects in a techno-economic context
- Development and application of the MERGE IAM by advancing its representation of energy demand
- Scientific supervision of internships and Master thesis students
- Coordinate model development tasks with project partners
- Dissemination and communication of research results to diverse audiences, including in both academic and non-academic literature and communities
The desired profile
- Master degree in higher education in economics, energy / environmental science, mechanical or electrical engineering, or computer engineering
- Experience in integrated energy economic modelling and optimisation tools
- Experience in the use of languages for scientific programming (GAMS, Python, MATLAB etc.) for developing mathematical models and handling of their data and results
- Solid knowledge about techno-economic characteristics of existing and novel energy technologies and systems
- Excellent English language skills are essential
