Junior researcher international climate policy analysis at PBL, Netherlands
PBL is looking for a junior researcher contributing to the analysis of international climate policy, mostly at the scale of major emitting countries. The activities are part of the ELEVATE project funded under the Horizon Europe research programme.
You will play a role in providing policy and scenario analysis focused at mitigation action to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and tracking climate action and progress towards targets at the national level. The analysis is done using the IMAGE modelling framework, with a focus on the energy system. The research also consists of analyzing and comparing the results of mitigation scenarios from IMAGE and other model teams. Therefore, you are also expected to collaborate with research teams and researchers from Europe and countries worldwide.
You will become part of the IMAGE research team. The IMAGE model is a key instrument of the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency for scenario analysis of global environmental change and climate change in relation to human development (https://www.pbl.nl/en/image). The energy model of IMAGE simulates the global energy system at the level of 26 world regions and countries and explores mitigation scenarios to prevent climate change. Its results are frequently used in international assessments such as those by IPCC.
PBL is looking for a colleague who enjoys working in a team and has strong analytical skills. Preferably you have experience in using models to explore research questions related to climate change. In particular, you will contribute to scenario studies and energy analysis, and you will be encouraged to publish in scientific publications.
