New IAMC Member: Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University
IAMC welcomes the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University SIPA.
The Center on Global Energy Policy (CGEP) is one of the core research centers affiliated with the recently established Columbia Climate School. Alongside the mission of delivering real-time policy-relevant research, CGEP is expanding its in-house quantitative long-term Energy systems modeling capacity being led by Dr. James Glynn. CGEP is developing state-of-the-art USA and Global TIMES models and aims to partake in and influence the global dialogue on the direction of research and integrated assessment modeling impacts that is key to the meetings of the Integrated Assessment Modelling Consortium and the broader work of the IPCC.
Conversations around energy and climate are becoming more polarized. We need global, multidisciplinary, cross-sector dialogue to share ideas, create solutions and foster cooperation. CGEP is the premier hub and policy lab for global energy thought leadership. Located in the world’s financial capital, CGEP connects policy makers, business and civil society leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators and journalists, creating a global forum that provides insight and students, providing insight to decision makers tasked with solving the world’s energy challenges.
Dr. Glynn is engaged within the ISIMIP protocol collaborating with PBL and PIK on innovations to couple global climate models. The Energy system modeling team at CGEP aims to collaborate with the broader IAMC community in energy systems modeling methods innovations and providing the evidence base for data driven policy based on the best science available.
